SSC CGL 2022 Exam Pattern: The SSC CGL is the Combined Graduate Level conducted for filling up officer & assistant level posts in various ministries and departments of the Central Government. SSC CGL Recruitment Exam is one of the most popular Government Recruitment Exams in the country as Lakhs of aspirants apply for this exam every year. SSC CGL 2022 consists of 2 Tiers or phases. There are lakhs of aspirants who appear for SSC CGL every year and most of the first-time exam takers are curious about the SSC CGL exam pattern. In this blog, we will discuss the detailed SSC CGL exam pattern which includes the Tier-I and Tier-II. 

SSC has introduced major changes in the SSC CGL Exam Pattern from 2022 onwards :

  • SSC CGL Tier - I is now only qualifying in nature.
  • Additional sections of Reasoning, General Awareness, Computer Module and Data Entry added in Tier – II
  • Only Tier- II is considered for final merit
  • Tier - III and IV have been scrapped
  • Negative marking changed
  • Post preference to be selected after Tier-II Result
  • Final DV will be done at the concerned departments only. SSC will not conduct DV.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

As per SSC CGL 2022 Notification, a lot of changes have been introduced in the SSC CGL Exam Pattern :

  • Tier - 2 Exam Pattern changed.
  • Tier - III and Tier - IV have been removed.
  • Merit list will be prepared on the basis of overall performance of candidates in Tier-II Examination only. This means Tier-1 is qualifying in nature now.
  • Sectional Cut off introduced in Tier- 2.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

In this phase, two exams are conducted on the same day, the details of the Tier-II exams are listed below

Merit list will be prepared on the basis of overall performance of candidates in Tier-II Examination only. Total time duration is 2 hours 15 minutes for Paper - 1 and 2 hours for Paper - 2 and 3 each.

  • Tier-II (Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III) will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-II of Section-III of Paper-I.
  • The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for English Language And Comprehension module in Section-II of Paper-I.
  • Paper-I will be conducted in two sessions - Session –I & Session-II, on same day. Session-I will include conducting of Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III. Session-II will include conducting of Module-II of Section-III.
  • Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I i.e. Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. However, while shortlisting the candidates for the posts where Computer Proficiency is prescribed higher qualifying standards will be set in comparison to other posts.
  • The "Data Entry Speed Test" (DEST) Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes.
  • Therefore, duration of Session-I will be 2 hours and 15 minutes and duration of Session-II will be 15 minutes only.

Negative marking

In Tier - I, there is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer.

In Tier - 2, there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and Paper-III.

SSC CGL Typing Test - Revised Guidelines

SSC on 20 June 2022 by a notice has Revised the rules of SSC Typing Tests. You can find the new rules under the Candidates' Corner in SSC official website.

A. Full Mistakes : The following errors are treated as full mistakes :-

  • For every omission of a word/figure.
  • For every substitution of a wrong word/figure, except transposition of words.
  • For every addition of a word/figure not found in the passage.
  • For every spelling error committed by way of repetition, or addition, or omission, or substitution of a letter/letters, e.g. the word ‘spelling' typed as seeplings; seplling; speling; seepling; spelling etc.
  • For repetition of word/figure, e.g. ‘I shall shall be grateful ……….'
  • Incomplete words (half typed words will be treated as mistake).

B. Half Mistakes : The following errors are treated as half mistakes :-

  • Spacing Errors : Where no space is provided between two words, e.g. ‘Ihope', or undesired space is provided between the words or letters of a word e.g. ‘I have', ‘I h ave' (space left between a word).
  • Wrong Capitalisation : Wrong typing of a capital letter for small letter or vice-versa.(This does not apply in respect of Hindi Typewriting scripts)
  • Punctuation Errors : Where the punctuation mark is omitted or added or substituted by another.
  • Transposition Errors : Where words are transposed, e.g. the words ‘I hope' typed as ‘hope I'.
  • Paragraphic Errors : Half mistake shall be treated for each irrational para, where the space given before starting of any paragraph is not uniform, i.e paragraph given manual spaces; without pressing the Tab Key, will be treated half-mistake.
