Factors Responsible for SSC CGL Expected Cut Off 2023

There are a number of factors that affect the cut off for SSC CGL. These are listed below:

  • Normalization: The aim of normalization is to ensure that the scores of candidates are comparable across different sessions of the exam, which may have slight variations in difficulty level.
    • Normalized score = (Raw score of the candidate / Mean of the raw scores of all candidates in the exam) x 100 + (Standard deviation of the raw scores of all candidates in the exam – Standard deviation of the raw scores of the session in which the candidate appeared) / Standard deviation of the raw scores of all candidates in the exam x 50
  • Computer Qualifying: The computer qualification is sometimes a make or break criteria. Students should score a minimum of 30% or 18 marks to make sure you’re in the safe zone.
  • Sectional Cut-Offs: These are cut-offs of each section of the exam. The sectional cut-off will be made known in the score card.
  • Typing Test Result: The result of typing test is solely dependent on the number of half and full mistakes made by the candidate. To have a high score, candidates should ensure they have avoided full mistakes and kept half mistakes to a minimum.
  • Negative Marking: The negative marking in SSC CGL also largely influences the cut-off. This is because candidates may score high, but if the number of wrong answers is high the score drops drastically.
  • Vacancy: Last but not the least, the number of vacancies. With a high number of vacancies, the cut-off may be low to admit more candidates. If the number of vacancies is lesser than the number of candidates qualified, the cut off will soar.
