SSC CGL Syllabus 

SSC CGL Syllabus 2024: SSC CGL is the Combined Graduate Level conducted for filling up officer & assistant-level posts in various ministries and departments of the Central Government. SSC CGL Notification 2024 will be released on 11th June 2024.

SSC CGL Syllabus 2024

The syllabus and exam pattern are very crucial for the preparation for any government examination. Candidates can prepare an effective study plan only after having complete knowledge of the syllabus. SSC CGL Examination consists of two tiers which are conducted in online mode.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2024

The Staff Selection Commission of India has updated the SSC CGL 2024 Exam. It now consists of two parts: Tier-1 and Tier-2. Everyone must take the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam. For SSC CGL Tier 2, there are three papers. Paper 1 is mandatory for all applicants. Paper 2 is for those applying for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) positions in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Paper 3 is for candidates seeking roles as Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer. Let’s break down the exam structure for each stage in the SSC CGL 2024 Recruitment process one by one.

SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The total time duration of SSC CGL 2023 is 60 minutes. The merit list will be prepared based on the overall performance of candidates in the Tier-2 Examination only. This means Tier-1 is qualifying in nature now. All sections of paper 1 must be qualified separately.

General Awareness Syllabus

Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society.

  • Test knowledge of current events and such matters of everyday observations.
  • The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries, especially about History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy and Scientific Research.

English Comprehension Syllabus

The candidate’s ability to understand correct English, basic comprehension and writing ability, etc. would be tested. The questions in Parts A, B, & D will be of a level commensurate with the essential qualification viz. Graduation and questions in Part C will be of the 10th standard level.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The merit list will be prepared based on the overall performance of candidates in the Tier-2 Examination only. The total time duration is 2 hours 15 minutes for Paper – 1 and 2 hours for Papers – 2 and 3 each.

  • Tier 2 (Paper-1, Paper-2 & Paper-3) will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-2 of Section-3 of Paper-1.
  • The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except for the English Language And Comprehension module in Section 2 of Paper 1.
  • Paper 1 will be conducted in two sessions – Session –1 & Session 2, on the same day. Session 1 will include conducting Section 1, Section 2, and Module 1 of Section 3. Session 2 will include conducting Module 2 of Section 3.
  • Module-1 of Section-3 of Paper-1 i.e. Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. However, while shortlisting the candidates for the posts where Computer Proficiency is prescribed higher qualifying standards will be set compared to other posts.
  • The “Data Entry Speed Test” (DEST) Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 (two thousand) key depressions for 15 (fifteen) minutes.
  • Therefore, the duration of Session 1 will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, and the duration of Session 2 will be 15 minutes only.

Negative marking

In Tier – 1, there is a negative marking of 0.5 marks for every wrong answer.

In Tier – 2, there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section 1, Section 2, and Module 1 of Section 3 of Paper 1 and 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper 2 and Paper 3.
