World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment.
The Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 Recommendation by covering teaching personnel in higher education. World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994. The 2024 theme, "Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,".
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company’s Dragon spacecraft is launched on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission to the International Space Station with NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov onboard, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9 mission is the ninth crew rotation mission of the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s Commercial Crew Program. Hague and Gorbunov launched at 1:17 p.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station to begin a six month mission aboard the orbital outpost.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated GAIL's first CBG Plant in Ranchi, Jharkhand, through a virtual ceremony. This 12,500 m³ per day capacity plant is designed to process 150 tonnes of Municipal Solid Waste to produce 5,000 kg Bio-CNG and 25 tons of fermented bio manure per day.
The plant is built in an area of 7.86 acres at Ranchi Jharkhand, Jhir Dumping Site Mouza Jhiri. The biogas generated in this facility is to be supplied to nearby CNG stations which can fuel over 600 vehicles per day in the region, contributing to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and promoting the use of clean and green fuel.
The Reserve Bank of India has reconstituted the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) as per section 45ZB of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. As per the provisions of the RBI Act, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) consists of six members: three Members from RBI and three are appointed by the Central Government.
The Members of the Monetary Policy Committee appointed by the Central Government shall hold office for a period of four years, with immediate effect or until further orders, whichever is earlier. In the past nine Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meetings, RBI has kept the repo rate unchanged. The current main goal is to reduce inflation to meet or even surpass the target.
The RBI appoints three representatives, including the governor, while the remaining three members are external appointees.
The Ministry of Finance has released new guidelines for handling delayed tax refund claims and loss carry forward applications. The new guidelines issued on 1 October 2024, increase the limit of tax refund claim amount in condonation of delay cases which will help taxpayers who missed filing any ITR though had a tax refund due to him/her.
The present circular is being issued to deal with the applications for condonation of delay in filing returns claiming refund and returns claiming carry forward of loss and set off thereof containing comprehensive guidelines on the conditions for condonation and the procedures to the followed for deciding such matters.

Exclusively issued by Airtel Payments Bank, the NCMC cards are designed to simplify travel across various modes of transport, such as metros, railways, and buses, by offering a unified payment solution. This eliminates the need for multiple tickets or cards.
The cards, equipped with tap-and-pay technology, enable quick and secure transactions at transit terminals and retail locations, enhancing both the speed and safety of payments. Airtel Payments Bank also offers a PPI-MTS prepaid card option, solely for transit payments, catering to a broader audience.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted three flight-tests of the 4th Generation, technically-advanced miniaturised Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan on October 03 & 04, 2024.
The development of VSHORADS missiles has been completed and two production agencies have been engaged in the Development cum Production Partner (DcPP) mode. VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System designed and developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and DcPPs.
In Shooting, Indian pistol shooter Divanshi secured her second individual gold in the women’s 25m standard pistol event, leading a remarkable clean sweep in the event at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Peru. In the corresponding men’s event, Suraj Sharma also won gold in the junior men’s standard pistol as Mukesh Nelavalli.
Divanshi dominated the event with a score of 564 out of 600. While Manvi Jain clinched bronze with a score of 557, marking India’s first-ever clean sweep in this competition. Shikha Chaudhary narrowly missed a podium finish, placing fourth with a score of 554, just one point ahead of Estonia’s Marja Kirss.

Jio Financial Services’ joint venture with BlackRock to enter the mutual fund (MF) space in India has received the nod from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), the company stated in an exchange filing. The market regulator granted an in-principle approval on October 3.
Jio’s entry into the MF space is expected to intensify competition in the industry, which currently has over Rs 66 trillion in assets under management. The firms inked a tie-up for the MF business in July 2023 and applied for a licence with the Indian regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), in October 2023.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Shri Aviral Jain as Executive Director (ED) with effect from October 01, 2024. Prior to being promoted as ED, Shri Jain was serving as Regional Director for Maharashtra. Shri Jain has experience of more than three decades in areas of supervision, currency management, foreign exchange regulation and human resource management.
As Executive Director, Shri Jain will look after 1. Legal Department, 2. Premises Department and 3. Right to Information Act (First Appellate Authority). Shri Jain is a post-graduate in economics. He also holds Certificates in AML / KYC and Capital Markets and is a Certified Associate of IIBF.
