IBF forms Digital Media Content Regulatory Council, Justice Vikramjit Sen to be Chairman

The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) announced the appointment of former Supreme Court judge Justice Vikramjit Sen as the Chairman of its newly formed self-regulatory body Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC).

DMCRC is formed as per the mandate of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

IIT Ropar Develops “AmbiTAG”- India’s First Indigenous Temperature Data Logger For The Cold Chain Management

Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (IIT Ropar) in Punjab has developed a first-of-its-kind IoT device – AmbiTag that records real-time ambient temperature during the transportation of perishable products, vaccines and even body organs and blood.

This information is particularly critical for vaccines including Covid-19 vaccine, organs and blood transportation.

Industry chamber CII has elected T V Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel Ltd, as its new president for 2021-22.

He takes over from Uday Kotak, Managing Director, and Chief Executive Officer, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.

He was the Chairman of CII Eastern Region during 2016-17.

Kappa' and 'Delta': WHO gives names to Covid-19 variants found in India.

The B.1.617.1 variant has been designated as 'Kappa' while the B1.617.2 variant has been dubbed 'Delta.'

Covid variant first found recently will be referred to as Delta.while earlier (last October) found variant in the country will be known as Kappa.

WHO labelled using Greek alphabets, for various variants of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Former Supreme Court judge, Justice Arun Mishra will be the head of the National Human Rights Commission. The name of Justice Mishra was recommended by a panel consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge.

Asian boxing: Pooja Rani wins 2nd straight gold, India end with 10 medals

Pooja Rani won the 75kg gold while six-time world champion MC Mary Kom, Lalbuatsaihi, and Anupama settled for silver medals as the Indian women's team finished with 10 medals at the Asian Boxing Championship.

The final Indian medal tally comprised one gold, three silver, and six bronze.

Asian Boxing Championship: India’s Sanjeet Kumar wins gold medal in 91 kg category

India’s pugilist Sanjeet Kumar won a gold medal in the 91 kg weight category at the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.

Sanjeet pulled off a massive upset as he defeated five-time Asian Championships medallist and Rio Olympic silver medalist Vassiliy Levit of Kazakhstan in a 3-2 split decision in the final of Asian Championships in Dubai to clinch the gold.

Achinta Sheuli wins silver at World Junior Weightlifting Championships

Achinta Sheuli smashed three National records as he took the silver medal in the men’s 73kg category at the World junior weightlifting championships.

Sheuli created new National records of 141kg in snatch (previous 140kg, N. Ajith, 2020, National championships, Kolkata).

The 19-year-old lifted an overall four kg more than his previous personal best of 309kg.

DRDO develops near isothermal forging technology for manufacturing aeroengines' parts

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the near isothermal forging technology used in manufacturing parts for aero-engines.

This technology is used to produce all the five stages of high press compressor (HPC) discs out of titanium alloy using an isothermal forge press weighing 2,000 tonnes.

Magma Fincorp appoints Adar Poonawalla as chairman, to be rebranded as Poonawalla Group company

Magma Fincorp has appointed Adar Poonawalla as its chairman as part of a management overhaul following the Poonawala-controlled Rising Sun Holdings acquiring a controlling stake in it.

Rising Sun invested Rs 3,456 crore in the non-bank lender earlier this month. Magma will soon be rebranded as Poonawalla Group company.
