In a major development in the firefighting and salvage operation of Singaporean Vessel MV Wan Hai 503, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), along with the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, successfully transferred the tow of the distressed container vessel to the ocean-going tug Offshore Warrior on June 13, 2025.
Despite adverse weather that restricted aerial operations and delayed salvage crew boarding, a Navy Sea King helicopter launched from Kochi on June 13 successfully winched salvage team members onto the vessel under extremely challenging conditions.
The team then managed to connect a 600-metre tow rope to Offshore Warrior approximately 20 nautical miles off the coast of Kochi. The vessel is now being towed westward at a speed of 1.8 knots and is nearly 35 nautical miles offshore.
Three ICG Offshore Patrol Vessels are continuing to escort the container ship and sustain firefighting operations.

The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with Shell India, has launched a Green Skills and Electric Vehicles (EV) training program aimed at equipping students and faculty with future-ready capabilities in green energy and e-mobility.
This initiative will be implemented by Edunet Foundation, training partner of Shell, across select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka on 12th June 2025.
Under the DGT–Shell India collaboration, green skill training will be delivered through a structured multi-tier model across select NSTIs and ITIs. In the first phase, the program includes a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs equipped with Shell-supported labs, and
a 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs without physical labs. The curriculum, jointly developed by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, covers EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, and safety protocols.
The initiative also includes Training of Trainers (ToT) for over 250 instructors, certification co-branded by Shell and DGT, and structured placement support to enhance industry readiness.
A key highlight of the initiative is the establishment of specialised EV skill labs within select ITIs and NSTIs.
Sun Pharmaceutical, India's largest drugmaker by revenue named Kirti Ganorkar as managing director, effective September 1.
The company's current managing director, Dilip Shanghvi, will continue to chair the board as an executive director, Sun Pharma said, adding that Gonarkar has been appointed for a period of five years.
The appointment is subject to the company's shareholders' approval on its annual general meeting, which is scheduled for July 31.
Gonarkar has been heading Sun Pharma's India business since 2019 and has previously held roles in marketing, new product introduction, among others, within the company.
He has also led Sun Pharma's entry into Japan, the company said.
It announced other leadership changes, including Richard Ascroft's appointment as chief executive officer of the North America business, which is a significant contributor to Sun Pharma's overall revenue.
Ascroft will replace Abhay Gandhi, who has tendered his resignation from the company after having worked for it for 30 years.
