The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved four more semiconductor projects under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
Momentum is building up in semiconductor ecosystem in India with the six approved projects already in various stages of execution.
These four proposals approved are from SiCSem, Continental Device India Private Limited (CDIL), 3D Glass Solutions Inc., and Advanced System in Package (ASIP) Technologies.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) signed an umbrella agreement with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) for joint research and development (R&D) to further enhance the robustness, security and reliability of Aadhaar operations through data driven innovations.
The agreement effective for a period of five years, will cover areas such as fraud and anomaly detection, development of biometric liveness detection tools, identification of high-risk enrolment/update categories, improvements in biometric matching algorithms, and other priority areas as mutually decided.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, from time to time, emphasised that banks must communicate with customers in their preferred language to ensure clarity and convenience.
RBI’s Master Circular on Customer Service in Banks states, inter alia, that all customer-facing materials at the branches of Scheduled Commercial Banks must be made available in Hindi, English, and the concerned regional language.
Further, RBI vide its letter dated September 30, 2024, reiterated that all communications to customers, should invariably be issued in a trilingual format-Hindi, English, and the regional language.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi today has approved investment of Rs.8146.21 crore for construction of Tato-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Shi Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. The estimated completion period for the project is 72 months.
The project with an installed capacity of 700 MW (4 x 175 MW) would produce 2738.06 MU of energy. The Power generated from the Project will help improve the power supply position in the state of Arunachal Pradesh and will also help in balancing of the national Grid.
The Project will be implemented through a Joint Venture Co. between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO) and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Govt. of India shall extend Rs.458.79 crore as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission line under enabling infrastructure besides,
Central Financial Assistance of Rs.436.13 crore towards equity share of the State.
The state would be benefitted from 12% free power and another 1% towards Local Area Development Fund (LADF) besides significant infrastructure improvement and socio-economic development of the region.

The bill replaces outdated provisions of the Indian Ports Act, 1908, with modern & contemporary regulations. It aims to simplify port procedures & digitalise operations to enhance ease of doing business (EODB).
India captain Shubman Gill and England batter Sophia Dunkley have been declared the ICC men’s and women’s Players of the Month, respectively, for July 2025 following an elaborate process that included votes from an esteemed selection panel as well as those of fans worldwide.
Gill became the first male player to win the Player of the Month award four times after a stupendous run in England saw him score 567 runs at an average of 94.50 in the three Tests played in July. His previous ICC Player of the Month awards were in January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025.
Two women players – Ash Gardner and Hayley Matthews – have won the award four times each.
The highlight for Gill during this period was his aggregate of 430 runs in the second Test in Birmingham, the second highest ever in a Test match.
His scores of 269 and 161 in that Test helped level the series 1-1 and he also chipped in with a useful 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester that helped draw the match and keep the series alive.
India’s Namrata Batra has scripted history by winning a silver medal in the women’s 52 kg final at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China.
The 24-year-old, who won silver at the Asian Championships last year and is a four-time national champion, went down 2-0 to local favourite Mengyue Chen in the final.
It was India’s first-ever medal in Wushu at the World Games and the country’s second podium finish at the ongoing edition after Rishabh Yadav’s bronze in men’s compound archery.
Namrata’s campaign began with a 2-0 win over Lebanon’s Barbara El Rassi in the quarter-finals, followed by another 2-0 victory over Krizan Faith Collado of the Philippines in the semis.
Jharkhand Women’s Hockey team emerged as Champions consecutively in the second year in the 15th Junior National Women’s Hockey Championship, defeating Hockey Haryana by 2-1 in the finals.
The championship was being organised at Kakinanda in Andhra Pradesh from August 1-12.
Sweety Dungdung also became the highest goal scorer in the Championship with a total of 5 goals.
Jharkhand Womens Hockey team has won the Junior National championship for four times in the year 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2025.
Adding another feather to their cap, the Womens Hockey team of Jharkhand has won the National Championship in all three categories viz Senior, Junior and Sub-junior in this year 2025.
In Boxing, India’s campaign at the Asian Under-19 & Under-22 Boxing Championships 2025 ended on a high note with Ritika winning gold in the women’s 80-plus kg category yesterday. The event, held in Bangkok, saw India’s teams win a total of 27 medals across both age groups.
The U19 team performed strongly, finishing second overall with 14 medals including 3 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze. While the U22 team secured 13 medals, including 1 gold, 4 silver, and 8 bronze, with Ritika being the only gold medalist in this group.
Other notable performances included silver medals for Yatri Patel in women’s 57kg category, Priya in 60kg category,
Neeraj in men’s 75kg category, and Ishan Kataria 90+kg category.
The U19 team was just behind Uzbekistan in gold medals, while the U22 team ranked fourth. Earlier this year, India’s younger U15 and U17 teams won a combined 43 medals at the Asian Championships, with the U15 squad earning the most golds at 11.
The Government of India has imposed new restrictions on the import of certain jute-based goods from Bangladesh. The decision, issued through a government notification by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on August 11, 2025, amends the existing Import Policy under the ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1, and takes immediate effect.
According to the notification, items including bleached and unbleached woven fabrics of jute or other textile bast fibres, twine, cordage, rope, cables made of jute, and sacks and bags of jute will no longer be allowed entry into India through any land port along the India-Bangladesh border.
Instead, these imports will be permitted only through the Nhava Sheva Seaport in Maharashtra.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has tightened norms governing Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), stating that OCI registration shall be liable for cancellation if an individual is sentenced to imprisonment for two years or more, or is charge-sheeted for an offence punishable with imprisonment of seven years or more.
The MHA has issued a notification dated August 11 stating that the new move is taken in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (da) of section 7D of the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The notification comes under the provisions of the Citizenship Act, 1955, and the Citizenship Rules, 2009,which empower the central government to cancel OCI registration under specified condition.

MY Bharat, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the School of Ultimate Leadership Foundation (SOUL) to collaborate on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and youth leadership development.
The partnership aims to support the national vision of creating 100,000 youth leaders in the age group of 18–29 years from across India through joint programs in governance, public policy, social entrepreneurship, digital literacy, financial literacy, and other domains. The MoU is valid for three years, and can be further extended with mutual consent.
