The Department of Posts (DoP), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ESRI India Technologies Private Limited (ESRI India), a Geographic Information System (GIS) software and solutions provider.
Under this MoU, DoP will be able to use Esri India’s high-resolution imagery and street basemaps for its DIGIPIN portal.
The collaboration will also enable the integration of DIGIPIN with Esri India’s Living Atlas portal, thereby making it accessible to the larger GIS community. Further, ESRI India will provide technical support to the DoP for seamless integration of their services for DIGIPIN.
This understanding aims to leverage Esri India’s mapping solutions to support the development and implementation of DIGIPIN, thereby, making the DIGIPIN system more robust and citizen-friendly.
The MoU was signed by designated representatives of the Department of Posts ESRI, India at an event held at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) announced the kickstarting of a series of outreach activities centred around the Amnesty Scheme 2025, to be undertaken by ESIC field offices across the country.
ESIC, in its 196th Meeting held on 26th June 2025 at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, under the chairmanship of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, approved the launch of Amnesty 2025. The initiative was formally announced on 27th June 2025.
A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between two of India’s leading institutions – Indian Railways (IR), one the largest rail networks in the world, and the State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank.
Under this MoU, insurance coverage for Railway employees maintaining salary accounts with SBI has been significantly enhanced. In case of accidental death, the insurance benefit has been increased to ₹1 crore, compared to the current coverage of ₹1.20 lakh, ₹60,000 and ₹30,000 for Group A, B, and C employees respectively covered under CGEGIS.
Additionally, all Railway employees holding only a salary account with SBI will now be eligible for natural death insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh—without the need for paying any premium or undergoing any medical examination.
With nearly 7 lakh Railway employees maintaining salary accounts with SBI, this agreement marks a major step towards employee welfare, reflecting a caring and constructive partnership between Indian Railways and SBI.
Some of the key complimentary insurance covers under this MoU include: Air Accident Insurance (Death) Cover of ₹1.60 crore plus an additional up to ₹1.00 crore on RuPay Debit Card; Personal Accident (Permanent Total Disablement) Cover of ₹1.00 crore; and Personal Accident (Permanent Partial Disability) Cover of up to ₹80 lakh.
India's markets regulator issued fresh rules for monitoring intraday positions in equity derivatives.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India has been reassessing the rules for equity derivatives after it temporarily banned US high-frequency trading firm Jane Street from the Indian markets,
saying some of its trading strategies were manipulative and left retail investors with losses.
The new framework, which will take effect from October 1, sets an intraday net position limit of ₹5,000 crore ($571.39 million) per entity in index options, compared with an end-of-day limit of ₹1,500 crore ($171.42 million).
Gross intraday exposure has been capped at ₹10,000 crore ($1.14 billion), applied separately to long and short positions, according to Sebi's statement.
Stock exchanges will monitor compliance using at least four random snapshots during the trading day, including one between 1445 IST and 1530 IST, when trading activity typically peaks, it added.
For entities breaching the limits, stock exchanges will examine trading patterns and seek an explanation for such positions.
Breach of the limits on the day of contract derivative expiry will attract a penalty, Sebi said, adding that the quantum of penalty will be decided by stock exchanges.
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions soared past 20.01 billion-mark with a 3 per cent rise from 19.47 billion registered in July, reflecting increased economic activity some of which can be attributed to the onset of festival season.
However, in terms of value, transactions were down marginally by 1 per cent to ₹24.85 trillion during the month versus ₹ 25.08 trillion in July, said the National Payments Corporation of India.
As many as 18.4 billion transactions worth ₹24.04 trillion took place in June.
During the month under review, daily transactions increased to 645 million against 628 million in July. In value terms, this came down to ₹80,177 crore compared to ₹80,919 crore last month. August UPI numbers were 34 per cent up in volume and 21 per cent in value compared to the same time last year.
An Indian Army contingent has departed for Fort Wainwright, Alaska, USA, to participate in the 21st edition of the India–USA Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025, scheduled from 1st to 14th September 2025.
The Indian contingent, comprising personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, will train alongside soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment “Bobcats” of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division of the USA.
Over two weeks, troops will rehearse a spectrum of tactical drills including heliborne operations, employment of surveillance resources and unmanned aerial systems, rock craft, mountain warfare, casualty evacuation, combat medical aid and the integrated use of Artillery, Aviation and Electronic Warfare systems.
In addition, subject-matter experts from both armies will conduct working groups on critical domains such as UAS and Counter-UAS operations, information warfare, communications and logistics.

New Delhi will host the Badminton World Championships in August 2026. The announcement was made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Championships in Paris yesterday. The competition will return to India after 17 years and to Asia after four years. In 2009, the World Championships were held in Hyderabad.
The last time an Asian city hosted the championships was in 2018, when it was held in China’s Nanjing.

The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the recognised National Sports Federation for Pickleball under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, officially concluded its landmark two-day selection trials today at the IPA Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad.
The trials marked a historic step for Indian pickleball, with over 140 top players from across the country competing for a place on the national team. Selections were made in three categories: Open,Under-16, and 50+.
For the first time, India will send an official national pickleball contingent to the Pickleball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Florida, USA, from October 27 to November 2, under the sanction of the Global Pickleball Federation.
Prolific Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc announced his immediate retirement from T20 international cricket on Tuesday (September 2, 2025), saying he wanted to focus on his Test and ODI career.
Starc, who played 65 matches for his country in the shortest format, was part of the Australia side that lifted the world title that year.
His 79 wickets in T20Is make him the second-highest for Australia after Adam Zampa.
Starc also reached the landmark of 400 Test wickets.
