India marked a major milestone on the global skills stage as the country concluded its debut participation at the WorldSkills Asia Competition (WSAC) 2025 with an impressive 8th-place finish, among 29 participating nations.
Led by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), with NSDC and other technical partners steering training and preparation, the Indian contingent comprised 23 competitors, who competed in 21 skill categories. They were accompanied and supported by 21 experts.
Messaging services including WhatsApp, Telegram and Arattai will now be available only when they are constantly linked to a SIM card.
Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an order directing messaging apps to ensure that the device providing the app services to users is paired with a SIM card.
This is being done to prevent fraud and hijacking of messaging accounts.
According the DoT directed companies to ensure that the apps are continuously linked to the SIM card installed in the device, “making it impossible to use the app without that specific, active SIM.”
Further, companies have to ensure that the web versions of the apps, if provided, are logged out periodically with the option to re-link no later than six hours, using a QR code. These compliances have to be carried out within 90 days of issuance of these instructions.
Aside from this, platforms also have to submit compliance reports to the DoT within 120 days from issuance of the directions. Failure to comply will result in action under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, the Telecom Cyber Security Rules, 2024 (as amended), and other applicable laws.

Chartered accountants' apex body ICAI said it has set a Guinness World Record for conducting the largest career advice programme session in a single day in Mumbai that saw participation of more than 7,400 students and other individuals.
The 'Career in Accounting and Finance for Youth (CAFY 4.0) & Super Mega Career Counselling Programme' was held on Thursday and pan-India, the number of total participants was more than 1.3 lakh. The event in Mumbai saw the "gathering of more than 7,400 students, teachers, principals and others.
The eligible record count of 6,166 students was achieved, which led to the record-breaking title of the 'Largest careers advice lesson'," ICAI said in a release.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said career counselling was offered for different streams, including humanities, science and commerce.
A new United Nations report has awarded the title of the world’s most populous city to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Overtaking the Japanese capital, Tokyo, for the first time, Jakarta jumped from 33rd place in the last ranking and is now home to an estimated 42 million people. To put that in context, Jakarta’s population is three times the size of New York’s.
Tokyo has slipped to third place in the World Urbanization Prospects 2025 report from the population division of the UN’s Depart of Economic and Social Affairs, with an estimated population of 33 million. Second place goes to Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, with 37 million residents.
The report’s dataset includes the latest estimates of urban and rural populations for 237 countries or areas from 1950 to 2025, with projections until 2050. It also provides estimates of the population size of all cities with 50,000 inhabitants or more by 2025.
Previous reports were based on data from national statistical authorities according to often wildly different country-specific definitions. The new report fully integrates “new geospatial methods through the harmonized Degree of Urbanization methodology, alongside country-specific definitions.”
Applying this new approach to gridded population and built-up area data allows the new report to, “measure cities, towns and rural areas consistently across countries and over time, while still retaining results based on national definitions for domestic policy use and statistical continuity.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a towering 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Rama at the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in Goa.
The unveiling comes as part of the Math’s 550th anniversary celebrations, known as the Sardha Panchashatamanotsava, in which the Prime Minister is participating during his Goa visit.
It is one of the oldest and most prominent Dvaita Vaishnava institutions in India. The ceremony marked a milestone moment for the math, which belongs to the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community and has served as a central Vaishnava spiritual seat for centuries.
Alongside the statue, PM Modi inaugurated the Ramayana Theme Park, released a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin.
The statue itself, crafted by legendary sculptor Ram V Sutar, known for designing the Statue of Unity, has been presented as the world’s tallest statue of Lord Ram. Modi described it as a symbol of unity, devotion and India's cultural continuity.

Amazon and Google introduced a jointly developed multicloud networking service to meet growing demand for reliable connectivity, the companies said in a statement.
The initiative will enable customers to establish private, high-speed links between the two companies’ computing platforms in minutes instead of weeks.
The new offering combines AWS’ Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, to improve network interoperability, according to announcements by the two cloud providers.
