Tucked away in the rugged hills of Latehar district, Jharkhand, lies one of India’s most extraordinary and lesser-known sanctuaries — the Mahuadanr Wolf Sanctuary, the country’s only reserve dedicated exclusively to the Indian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes).
Far from the crowded safari trails of Ranthambore or Jim Corbett, Mahuadanr offers a rare and raw experience of India’s wilderness — a realm where silence echoes through sal forests, nature breathes undisturbed, and wolves still roam freely under the vast eastern sky.
Several minor, short-lived eruptions occurred at Taal Volcano in the Philippines over the weekend of October 25–26, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Eruptions: PHIVOLCS reported four minor eruptions, which included both steam-driven (phreatic) and steam-and-magma (phreatomagmatic) blasts.
Ash plumes reached heights of up to 2,100 meters, though authorities stated that these were "normal" for the volcano.
Alert level: The alert level for Taal Volcano remains at Level 1, which signifies a low level of unrest. This status indicates that while an eruption is not imminent, sudden phreatic or phreatomagmatic blasts can still occur.
Taal is an active volcano situated within a massive caldera in Batangas province, approximately 60 kilometers south of Manila.
It is known for its complex structure and unpredictable, explosive eruptions.
The last major eruption occurred in 2020, which resulted in mass evacuations and widespread ashfall.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is actively undertaking activites under Special Campaign 5.0 from 2nd to 31st October 2025. The Ministry has recorded significant progress across key focus areas of public grievance redressal, record management, and cleanliness.
As on 27th October 2025, the Ministry has achieved 100% disposal of 299 Public Grievances and 104 Public Grievance Appeals under the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters. Four cleanliness drives have been conducted during the campaign period, achieving all planned targets.
Out of 150 physical files identified for review, 100 (67%) have been reviewed, while 355 (77%) of 460 e-files have been reviewed across various divisions. Till now as part of the regular follow-up, MoPR is regularly coordinating with State and UT Departments of Panchayati Raj to ensure timely resolution of public grievances.
In a landmark initiative under the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) framework for promoting the sustainable use of India’s biological resources, the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) has released ₹55 lakh to 18 farmers/ cultivators of Red Sanders (Pterocarpus santalinus) in Tamil Nadu through the State Biodiversity Board.
These farmers belong to 8 villages namely Kannabhiran nagar, Kothur, Vembedu, Siruniyum, Goonipalayam, Ammambakkam, Alikuzhi, Thimmaboopola puram under Tiruvallur District.
This first-of-its-kind benefit sharing initiative to farmers/ cultivators marks a historic step towards inclusive biodiversity conservation.
It builds upon the NBA’s earlier release of ABS share of Rs. 48.00 crores to the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department, Karnataka Forest Department and Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board for protection and conservation of Red sanders.
This initiative stems from the recommendations of an Expert Committee on Red Sanders constituted by the NBA in 2015.
It prepared a comprehensive report titled ‘Policy for Conservation, Sustainable Use and Fair and Equitable Benefit Sharing Arising from the Utilisation of Red Sanders’. One of the key outcomes of the Committee’s recommendations was the 2019 policy relaxation by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), permitting the export of Red Sanders from cultivated sources.
Red Sanders, an endemic species to Eastern Ghats found in Andhra Pradesh alone, has ecological, economic, and cultural significance. It is also cultivated in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha and other States.
Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement plan for pulses and oilseeds in the states of Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh for the Kharif 2025–26 season.
The total approved procurement amount for these states is pegged at ₹15,095.83 crore, which will immensely benefit lakhs of farmers across the respective states.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated 'Deep Sea Fishing Vessels' under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana at Mazgaon Dock, Mumbai. On this occasion, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol also present.
Union Minister of Cooperation stated that presently, individuals working on trawlers for fishing are employed on a salary basis, but now, with cooperative-based fishing, the entire profit from the trawlers will reach the homes of every fisherman involved.
Shri Shah said that while 14 such trawlers will be provided initially, the Central Government, the Ministry of Cooperation, and the Fisheries Department plan to provide more such trawlers to fishermen on a cooperative basis in coming time. He mentioned that these trawlers can stay in deep seas for up to 25 days and carry up to 20 tons of fish.
Additionally, there will be larger ships to coordinate operations and transport fish from the sea to the shore. He also noted that the trawlers are equipped with convenient facilities for living and dining.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation stated that a major scheme is being planned in the coming days for the poor brothers and sisters who earn their livelihood by fishing along the approximately 11,000-kilometer-long coastline.
The Indian Navy’s indigenously built Survey Vessel (Large), Ikshak, is set to be commissioned at Naval Base Kochi on 06 Nov 2025. The ceremony will be presided over by Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, marking the formal induction of the vessel.
As the third ship of her class, Ikshak’s induction underscores the Indian Navy’s steadfast commitment to building advanced, state-of-the-art platforms furthering the momentum of capability enhancement and self-reliance – charting a new course in indigenous hydrographic excellence.

Notably, Ikshak is also the first SVL ship with dedicated accommodation for women, reflecting the Indian Navy’s inclusive and progressive approach towards a future-ready fleet.
The ship’s name, Ikshak, meaning ‘The Guide’, aptly symbolises her mission – to chart the unknown, ensure safe passage for mariners, and strengthen India’s maritime power.
The Indian Army today commemorated Infantry Day, also known as Shaurya Diwas, with a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at the National War Memorial, New Delhi, paying tribute to the valour, sacrifice and indomitable spirit of the Infantry.
Three decorated war veterans, Major Ashish Sonal, Vir Chakra (Retired), a veteran of Operation PAWAN (1990); Subedar Major & Honorary Captain Kunwar Singh, Vir Chakra (Retired), who took part in Operation MEGHDOOT (1989); and Lance Naik Amrit, Vir Chakra (Retired), a participant of Operation CACTUS LILY (1971), and
also laid wreaths on behalf of Infantry veterans, reaffirming the enduring legacy of gallantry and selfless service.

Observed on 27 October every year, Infantry Day holds a special place in the Nation’s history. On this day in 1947, Infantrymen of the Indian Army were the first troops to land at Srinagar airport. These represents ₹1.15 lakh crore investment, ₹10.34 lakh crore production, and 1.42 lakh jobs to be created. It is the highest-ever investment commitment in India’s electronics sector.
This 27 October 2025, the world commemorates the 20th anniversary of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (WDAH), a celebration proclaimed by UNESCO to recognise the importance of preserving audiovisual memory.
The UNESCO Archives has launched the project "Digitizing our shared UNESCO history" with this very goal in mind.
The World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (WDAH) is a commemoration of the adoption, in 1980 by the 21st General Conference, of the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images. The World Day provides an occasion to raise general awareness of the need to take urgent measures and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents.
