The Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communications, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MapmyIndia - Mappls, a provider of location technology, IoT, and geospatial solutions. The collaboration is aimed at utilizing MapmyIndia’s mapping platform and products to support the development and implementation of DIGIPIN.
Under the terms of MoU, MapmyIndia will provide base maps for integration into the Know Your DIGIPIN application, enhancing visibility for users and enabling accurate generation of DIGIPINs based on geographic location. In addition, DIGIPIN functionality will be incorporated into the Mappls application, allowing users to search for and navigate to locations using DIGIPIN.
MapmyIndia will also facilitate the allocation of DIGIPINs to addresses already identified within its database, thereby strengthening location-based services and promoting the broader adoption of DIGIPIN across platforms.
Indian IT firm Tata Consultancy Services has named Amit Kapur as the head of its newly formed AI and services transformation unit, a company memo seen by Reuters showed.
Kapur's appointment, effective from September, comes at a time when Indian IT companies are racing to adopt and offer more AI products to their clients to attract tech spending,
which has remained suppressed for many quarters.

The Centre’s fiscal deficit for the first four months of 2025-26 (FY26) expanded to 29.9 percent of the budget estimates (BE) comparable to ₹4.7 trillion from ₹2.8 trillion or 17.2 per cent of BE for the April-July period of FY25, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).
The net tax revenue stood at 23.3 per cent of BE in April-July of FY26, compared to 27.7 per cent in the corresponding period of FY25.
Contraction in the personal income tax collections in July 2025 — due to an extension of the deadline to file income tax returns and an adverse base — pulled down the performance of gross tax revenues in the month, experts said.
Net tax revenues in April-July FY26 contracted by 7.5 per cent, the CGA data showed. Non-tax revenues surged by 34 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) due to the receipt of the higher-than-budgeted dividend from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
India’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.8 per cent in the first quarter (April-June) of the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), hitting a five-quarter high, according to estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
During the same period last year, the GDP growth rate stood at 6.5 per cent.
The latest estimates are above the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) projection of 6.5 per cent for Q1 FY26. In its most recent monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting earlier this month, the central bank had retained its growth forecast for the first quarter and the full financial year at 6.5 per cent.
Nominal GDP increased 8.8 per cent to ₹86.05 trillion during the June quarter. Real Gross Value Added (GVA) at constant prices, which measures the value of goods and services produced, increased 7.6 per cent to ₹44.64 trillion, while nominal GVA expanded 8.8 per cent to ₹78.25 trillion.
The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 44.7 lakh on Bandhan Bank for deficiencies in certain statutory and regulatory compliance.
In a statement, the RBI said that a statutory inspection for supervisory evaluation of the bank was conducted with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2024.
Based on supervisory findings of non-compliance with RBI directions and related correspondence in that regard, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why a penalty should not be imposed on it for its failure to comply with the said RBI directions.
RBI said the bank paid remuneration in the form of commission to certain employees.
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Friday said it has paid a dividend cheque of Rs 7,324.34 crore to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the 2024-25 financial year.
The dividend was approved by LIC in its annual general meeting held on August 26, 2025, the state-owned insurance firm said in a statement.
LIC had an asset base of Rs 56.23 lakh crore as of March 31, 2025. It continues to be the market leader in the Indian Life Insurance market.
The dividend cheque was presented to the Finance Minister by LIC CEO and MD R Doraiswamy in the presence of Department of Financial Services Secretary M Nagaraju and Joint Secretary Parshant Kumar Goyal, along with senior officials.
World and Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra secured second place at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland, marking his 26th consecutive top-two finish in international javelin events. Defending champion Chopra opened with a throw of 84.35 metres, followed by a modest 84 metres in his second attempt. He then registered three consecutive fouls.
But in his final and sixth attempt, Chopra came through with 85.10 metres, clinching the runner-up spot. Each javelin thrower has six attempts.
Germany’s Julian Weber dominated the competition with a personal best and world-leading throw of 91.51 metres in his second attempt, securing the gold early.
Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, the 2012 Olympic champion, finished third with 84.95 metres. Neeraj Chopra now turns his focus to defending his World Championship title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, starting 13th of September.
At the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Ajaya Babu Valluri clinched a gold medal, as Indian lifters continued their good performance in Ahmedabad. In the men’s 79kg category, Ajaya Babu lifted a total of 335 kilograms, edging out Malaysia’s Muhammad Erry, who lifted 333 kilograms, and Nigeria’s Adedapo Adeleke, who managed 306 kilograms.
With this Babu qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year. In the women’s 69kg final, Harjinder Kaur secured bronze, lifting 222 kilograms. The 30th edition of the championships features over 300 lifters from 31 nations.
Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu kickstarted India’s campaign with a gold in the women’s 48kg category, also securing her spot for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
In shooting, India clinched a double gold in the Men’s 25-meter Standard Pistol events, both individual and team, at the 16th Asian Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, yesterday. In the individual event, Rio Olympian Gurpreet Singh won his first-ever international gold, while Amanpreet Singh took the silver.
The duo, along with Harsh Gupta, also secured the team gold in the same category.
India continued its strong performance in the junior events as well. The country won gold in the 50-meter Rifle Prone Junior Team and the 25-meter Standard Pistol Junior Team events.
In the junior 25-meter Standard Pistol individual competition, Suraj Sharma claimed silver, and Tanishq Naidu took bronze. The two teamed up with Mukesh Nelavalli to win gold in the team event.
In the 50-meter Rifle Prone Junior Team event, the trio of Sami Ulah Khan, Adriyan Karmakar, and Kushagra Singh Rajawat brought home another gold.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, has signed an Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Government of Japan on Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The development demonstrates India’s firm commitment to Climate Action and marks yet another milestone in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
India and Japan share a strong history of economic, commercial and cultural cooperation. The current MoC aims to bolster the partnership between India and Japan on Climate Change Mitigation.
