Fiscal deficit at 29.9% of budget estimates in April-July FY26: CGA data

The Centre’s fiscal deficit for the first four months of 2025-26 (FY26) expanded to 29.9 percent of the budget estimates (BE) comparable to ₹4.7 trillion from ₹2.8 trillion or 17.2 per cent of BE for the April-July period of FY25, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA).

India’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 7.8 per cent in the first quarter (April-June) of the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), hitting a five-quarter high, according to estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

During the same period last year, the GDP growth rate stood at 6.5 per cent.

RBI imposes penalty of Rs. 44.70 lakh on Bandhan Bank over regulatory lapses

The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 44.7 lakh on Bandhan Bank for deficiencies in certain statutory and regulatory compliance.

In a statement, the RBI said that a statutory inspection for supervisory evaluation of the bank was conducted with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2024.

Based on supervisory findings of non-compliance with RBI directions and related correspondence in that regard, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why a penalty should not be imposed on it for its failure to comply with the said RBI directions.

LIC presents dividend cheque of Rs. 7,324 crore to Finance Minister for FY25

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Friday said it has paid a dividend cheque of Rs 7,324.34 crore to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the 2024-25 financial year.

The dividend was approved by LIC in its annual general meeting held on August 26, 2025, the state-owned insurance firm said in a statement.
