Praveer Ranjan takes charge as CISF DG; Praveen Kumar appointed ITBP chief

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) got new chiefs on September 30, 2025 with senior IPS officers Praveer Ranjan and Praveen Kumar taking charge of the paramilitary forces.

Mr. Ranjan, a 1993 batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, assumed charge as Director General, CISF following the superannuation of R.S. Bhatti.

He was serving as Special DG, CISF and heading the sensitive Airport Security division prior to his appointment.

Praveen Kumar, a 1993 batch IPS officer from the West Bengal cadre, took charge as Director General, ITBP after Rahul Rasgotra retired from service. The ITBP is the primary border guarding force deployed along the India-China frontier.

Govt proposes sound alert system for all electric vehicles from October 2027

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed making acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS) mandatory for all electric cars, buses and trucks with effect October 1, 2027, keeping road safety in mind.

The Ministry in a draft notification said that all new models of electric passenger and goods vehicles manufactured after October 2026 must be equipped with AVAS,

as amended from time to time," the notification said.

Electrified vehicles of Category M include electric cars and buses designed for passenger transport, while Category N comprises electric-powered trucks and goods vehicles.

Countries like the U.S., Japan and some of the European Union nations have already mandated uses of AVAS in hybrid vehicles.
