The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) got new chiefs on September 30, 2025 with senior IPS officers Praveer Ranjan and Praveen Kumar taking charge of the paramilitary forces.
Mr. Ranjan, a 1993 batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, assumed charge as Director General, CISF following the superannuation of R.S. Bhatti.
He was serving as Special DG, CISF and heading the sensitive Airport Security division prior to his appointment.
Praveen Kumar, a 1993 batch IPS officer from the West Bengal cadre, took charge as Director General, ITBP after Rahul Rasgotra retired from service. The ITBP is the primary border guarding force deployed along the India-China frontier.
Before his appointment, Mr. Kumar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. Over a 32-year career, he has held several important assignments both in his West Bengal cadre and the Intelligence Bureau.
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department has been honoured with the Global Tourism Award 2025 for its remarkable initiatives to establish the State as one of India’s most promising tourist destinations.
Tourism consultant Nishitha Goyal received the award on behalf of the department at a function held in New Delhi.
According to the Global News Network, which instituted the award, Andhra Pradesh Tourism was recognised for its visionary leadership in framing a new tourism policy, guiding investors in destination development, building an eco-friendly capital city, and strengthening the State’s economy.
The award also recognised the department’s efforts in positioning Gandikota as a leading eco and adventure destination, creating supporting infrastructure and hospitality facilities, generating employment, and mobilising private sector participation through the PPP model.
Over the past 15 months, the department signed 103 MoUs with reputed organisations, a milestone that contributed to its achievement.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed making acoustic vehicle alerting system (AVAS) mandatory for all electric cars, buses and trucks with effect October 1, 2027, keeping road safety in mind.
The Ministry in a draft notification said that all new models of electric passenger and goods vehicles manufactured after October 2026 must be equipped with AVAS,
a safety feature in EVs to emit an artificial sound to alert pedestrians and other road users about their presence.
"Provided also that, on and after 1st October 2026 in case of new models and 1st October 2027 in case of existing models, electrified vehicles of category M and N shall be fitted with AVAS meeting requirements with regard to audibility as specified in AIS-173,
as amended from time to time," the notification said.
Electrified vehicles of Category M include electric cars and buses designed for passenger transport, while Category N comprises electric-powered trucks and goods vehicles.
Countries like the U.S., Japan and some of the European Union nations have already mandated uses of AVAS in hybrid vehicles.
The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, presented the diamond jubilee Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan September 30, 2025 in recognition of 75 years of glorious service since the designation as the PBG in 1950.
‘Viraat’, the Commandant’s Charger, which was retired in 2022, was also present on the occasion. PBG has adopted Viraat after his retirement, which is a unique symbol of the bond between the personnel of PBG and their horses. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had patted this horse at the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2022.
The President’s Bodyguard is the oldest regiment in the Indian Army, having been raised as the Governor-General’s Bodyguard (later the Viceroy’s Bodyguard) in 1773. On January 27, 1950, the regiment was renamed the President’s Bodyguard.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, presented his Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard on May 14, 1957.The PBG is the only Regiment that is permitted two ‘Standards’, namely the President’s Standard of Body Guard and the Regimental Standard of The PBG.
India has been re-elected to the Part II of the Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized UN agency. Part II comprises of States making the largest contribution to the provision of facilities for international civil air navigation. The election took place on 27 September 2025, during the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session, being held in Montreal.
India secured more votes as compared to the 2022 elections, reflecting the growing confidence among Member States in its leadership and commitment to international civil aviation.

The Competition Commission of India has approved the acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Limited by Jindal Power Limited. The Proposed Combination envisages acquisition of Jaiprakash Associates Limited (JAL) by Jindal Power Limited (Acquirer) pursuant to a corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC).
The Acquirer has been incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956, and is primarily engaged in the power sector. The entities belonging to the Acquirer Group have a global presence in the steel, energy, and mining sectors.

Senior journalist from Mysuru, Amshi Prasannakumar, has been chosen for the ‘Hombale Samhita Harinikumar Alumni Krishi Media Award – 2025’. The award honours journalists in print and electronic media for their contribution to agricultural reporting and for creating awareness among farmers.

England seam-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from international cricket. In a social media post, Woakes announced his decision, saying that it’s the right time for him to retire.
Having featured in 217 games for England across all formats of the game since his debut in 2011, Woakes took a total of 396 wickets, in addition to 3,705 runs with the bat. The all-rounder was a vital member of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning team, playing a key role with both bat and ball. He also added a T20 World Cup title with England to his name in 2022.
