The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 shows that India now has the second-highest number of ranked universities for the first time, behind only the U.S. The 22nd edition of the ranking lists 2,191 institutions from 115 countries and territories. Though Indian universities don’t make it among top 200 institutes.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced (October 9, 2025) that it has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Literature for the year 2025 to the Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.”.
Born in 1954 in a town near the Romanian border Mr. Krasznahorkai became literary sensation in Hungary with his first novel ‘Sátántangó published in 1985 (‘Satantango’, 2012).
His ‘Herscht 07769’ published this year, is described as a great contemporary German novel, on account of its accuracy in portraying the country’s social unrest.
The generation of e-way bills — electronic permits required for transporting goods worth over Rs. 50,000 within or across states — touched a record 132 million in September, marking the highest monthly tally on record. Year-on-year (Y-o-Y),
e-way bill generation rose 21.1 per cent, though it grew only 2.2 per cent sequentially from August, according to Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) data. In July, the e-way bills were at 131.91 million, the second highest.
The record generation of e-way bills signifies an encouraging trend of enhanced compliance and rising economic activity.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the appointment of Sanjay Kumar Hansda as Executive Director (ED) with effect from March 3, 2025.
Hansda returns from IMF role to take charge at RBI
He reported back to the RBI on October 6, 2025, after completing his deputation as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director (India), International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As Executive Director, Hansda will oversee the Department of Economic and Policy Research. He is a post-graduate in economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University and holds a diploma in financial services management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, University of Mumbai.
The Delhi government has started a scheme to provide collateral-free loans to small businesses and women entrepreneurs, aiming to strengthen the national capital’s economic growth.
Delhi’s FY26 Budget had allocated Rs 5 crore for the scheme and an additional phased contribution of Rs 50 crore is expected in partnership with Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE).
Max Life Pension Fund Management has surrendered its licence and its customers have been shifted to other funds, the regulator for the pension sector has said.
The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) cancelled Max Life Pension’s registration after the company on December 31 sought voluntary withdrawal from managing assets under,
the National Pension System (NPS). In a notice on its website, PFRDA said NPS subscribers of Max Life Pension have been transferred to other pension funds according to regulatory guidelines. Investors also may choose another pension fund manager (PFM) if they wish.
From April 19, 2025, all pension assets previously managed by Max Life PFM have been transferred to UTI Pension Fund.
From June 21, 2025, all subscribers registered through Max Life as a P-o-P have been moved to Axis Bank.
This ensures there is no disruption in account access or fund management for NPS investors.
The corpus accumulated by subscribers continues to earn returns under the new fund manager without affecting their NPS Tier I or Tier II accounts.
Under PFRDA rules, NPS subscribers can change their PFM once in a financial year for Tier-I accounts, and multiple times for Tier-II accounts.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated October 01, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹4.20 lakh (Rupees Four lakh twenty thousand only) on HDB Financial Services Limited (the company) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC)) Directions, 2016’ issued by RBI.
